Mason Jars

New Year with new ideas! This next project I have wanted to do for a while. Every year I wait for canning season. I have collected so many mason jars over the years that when I saw this idea on the internet I new I had some of the supplies right at home.  Here is an easy project to start today. For this project I used three quart jars. It depends on what you are going to store in the jars to find the right size. I knew I wanted to put utensils in there so I was going to need larger jars to hold the tall items. If you are going to store smaller item like tooth brushes I would use pint jars. Half pint jars can be used for q-tips or toothpicks. Lets's get started! Here are the supplies needed: mason jars, paint, paintbrush, sandpaper, jute string. Once you have all of the supplies you are ready to start painting. Simply start at the top while holding the jar in one hand and paint brush in the other hand. Move in a circular motion all the way down the jar. Depending

What to do with a Pine Cone

It's been a while since I have been able to post anything. Life gets crazy at times, but I try and make time for my crafts. Some family time was needed, and I am ready to show you some more ideas that I have been working on. My hope for the new year is to make at least three to four posts a month. I hope to be able to complete this New Years resolution. Let's start with my latest project.  What to do with a Pine Cone:             I have to admit this project hurt way more than I had imagined. My hands took a beating but to wear gloves would not have helped. This is a very precise project that takes steady hands. Last year I started gathering my pine cones over the summer. This gave them just enough time to dry out.  Winter in Minnesota can be a good time to work on projects, as our winters can be long and very cold. I have to admit it was nice to see pine cones again. Before we get started here is a little disclaimer: This project is time consuming and hurts, but I also h

Scrabble Letters

Sitting down and playing a good old game of scrabble was not always at the top of my list of things to do. I recently found my old game on the shelf and was ready to use it in a different way. This is a very simple project that will not take long. Here is what you will need: scrabble letters, scrapbook paper, button, canvas and hot glue gun. My canvas is 12 by 12 inches. This is a good size because most scrapbook paper is bigger in size so all you will have to do is just trim to fit the canvas. Then its just like playing scrabble use the letters to make whatever design you would like. In my first picture I used a last name, Milfury and then the family members. In the pictures below you will see I used the word Family and then words around it to explain what family means to me. I have also given this to a grandmother as a gift with all of her grand kids surrounding the grandmother word. You will have to really think about the layout before you start gluing. Once you find the right

Puzzle Pieces

I remember going to rummage sales specifically looking for old puzzles to buy and put together. I got so obsessed with puzzles, I bought a 6000 piece puzzle, put it together, and glued it for decoration. Overtime I accumulated several puzzles and began not knowing what to do with them. I put my craft mind to work. I want to share with you a few ideas I found to use with my puzzle pieces. The first project I tried is a simple wreath: What is nice about this project is you can use any puzzle doesn't have to match with a color scheme. Start with putting the pieces into a circle For the next layer you can start adding glue to  the bottom of the colored side of piece and glue Just go all around the wreath placing each piece on top of the other pieces. I made three layers.       Next I made a Christmas Tree ornament.                Just place the pieces in the shape of the tree and then add pieces on top with glue.                     Next I tried a snow

More Paper crafts

Found a few more ideas to add to my paper craft collection. I was browsing the internet for crafts with paper or for things that I have not tried. I came across a Christmas idea just in time for my favorite holiday. I have to admit it's a lot harder than it looks. This is my first one that I made and I can already see some of the changes I will make for the next one.  Now let's get started, here is a step by step guide.  First you will need Cardboard, glue gun, scrapbook paper, ribbon:   You can use a roll from wrapping paper or from a roll of plastic. I used one from house wrap. I quickly realized you will need a strong base for this project. I started just holding it up as I was working but quickly found out I should have made a base. I ended up taking an old vase that was small enough around to fit the inside of the roll and used that as my base. When I make another one I will make a base around the bottom to make it more sturdy. Then I took scrapbook paper that was gree

string art

Loved this project. Took some time to get set up, but it was worth it. This is a project you can do alone or with a group of friends. String art is something I have wanted to try for a while. Now that we are remodeling our home I have extra wood around. I went out and grabbed a piece I thought would work for my project. Once you are ready, start sanding your piece of wood. This will help smooth the surface and help the paint hold better. Next step was to decide on a paint. I chose Dutch Boy satin white.  I had this the basement and worked great.  I also wanted a rustic look, so I took an old sock and dipped it in the paint.  Then I just started rubbing the paint in little sections over the piece of wood, this helped give it a weathered look. Next it was to start measuring my letters. I took an 8x11 piece of paper and cut out letters for the word HOME. I used block letters for this project giving it more roo
