Mason Jars

New Year with new ideas! This next project I have wanted to do for a while. Every year I wait for canning season. I have collected so many mason jars over the years that when I saw this idea on the internet I new I had some of the supplies right at home.

Here is an easy project to start today. For this project I used three quart jars. It depends on what you are going to store in the jars to find the right size. I knew I wanted to put utensils in there so I was going to need larger jars to hold the tall items. If you are going to store smaller item like tooth brushes I would use pint jars. Half pint jars can be used for q-tips or toothpicks. Lets's get started!

Here are the supplies needed: mason jars, paint, paintbrush, sandpaper, jute string.

Once you have all of the supplies you are ready to start painting. Simply start at the top while holding the jar in one hand and paint brush in the other hand. Move in a circular motion all the way down the jar. Depending on what kind of paint you use, I would do two coats. I even painted inside the lid down about an inch and a half.
Let sit and dry for about 10 to 12 hours, you want to make sure the paint is completely dry. After drying, now you can start to sand. I used a 3M general purpose sandpaper. Go around the jar and start sanding. This next step is your preference how much you sand. I just wanted a weathered look, and also wanted to show the Ball and Kerr words clearly. To get the words to come through I really worked those spots, almost all the way down to the jar. The rest of the spots I used the sandpaper to  gently rub all around the jars surface.
Last step is to add the Jute string. I bought mine at the Dollar Store, but most hobby stores will also carry it. I wanted to be able to again read the jars label, placing the string at the top of the jar was the best place. Simply wrap the string tightly around the jar several times, at the end tie the string in a bow.

VoilĂ ! You are done. Here are two different ways to place the jars.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. See you next time for another crafty project!

Scrabble Letters

Sitting down and playing a good old game of scrabble was not always at the top of my list of things to do. I recently found my old game on the shelf and was ready to use it in a different way. This is a very simple project that will not take long. Here is what you will need: scrabble letters, scrapbook paper, button, canvas and hot glue gun. My canvas is 12 by 12 inches. This is a good size because most scrapbook paper is bigger in size so all you will have to do is just trim to fit the canvas. Then its just like playing scrabble use the letters to make whatever design you would like. In my first picture I used a last name, Milfury and then the family members. In the pictures below you will see I used the word Family and then words around it to explain what family means to me. I have also given this to a grandmother as a gift with all of her grand kids surrounding the grandmother word. You will have to really think about the layout before you start gluing. Once you find the right

string art

Loved this project. Took some time to get set up, but it was worth it. This is a project you can do alone or with a group of friends. String art is something I have wanted to try for a while. Now that we are remodeling our home I have extra wood around. I went out and grabbed a piece I thought would work for my project. Once you are ready, start sanding your piece of wood. This will help smooth the surface and help the paint hold better. Next step was to decide on a paint. I chose Dutch Boy satin white.  I had this the basement and worked great.  I also wanted a rustic look, so I took an old sock and dipped it in the paint.  Then I just started rubbing the paint in little sections over the piece of wood, this helped give it a weathered look. Next it was to start measuring my letters. I took an 8x11 piece of paper and cut out letters for the word HOME. I used block letters for this project giving it more roo

Decorative Letters

ABCDEFG, what can you do with just a letter? Most of my ideas come from the internet, catalogs, or from others. When I started this project I wanted something I could have up at all times of the year. My goal was to eventually have different letters decorated for different themes. Think of what theme you are looking for; a particular season, a holiday, or just a traditional look that can stay up all year. The picture below shows how I decorated my mantle above the fire place. I already had a old window I pulled out of my shed. In the top three open spots I usually put undated pictures of my three girls. Just an FYI when you buy your first letter you will realize there are several different types of letters: wood ones, card board, light up, ones that stand, ones that are flat, and on and on. I strongly encourage you to think of your project ahead of time. I have three young kids and at this time in my life FAMILY is a good theme. First thought was how will I decorate each letter so
