All About Paper

I always thought scrapbook paper is used solely for scrap booking. Wrong, I quickly realized scrapbook paper can be used in several different projects. In this post I wanted to show you a fun hobby I started about five years ago, making paper flowers. I Love to work on these. Yes they are time consuming, but when you are finished they look great. Here are a few flowers arrangements I have completed.

In the steps below I describe a step by step process how to make one of these.  The flower shown below is a common flower I use in most of my bouquets or flower arrangements. Lets get started.
Depending on what you are making the flower for, will depend on how big you want the flowers. I typically make a 4 by 4 square. One flower takes 5 squares.

#1:Once you get the squares cut you can start folding.
First fold is completed by folding one end to another making a triangle.

#2: Now take each bottom corner and fold it up to the center corner.

#3:  Now take each side and fold the triangle
that is sticking up down against the bottom fold

#4: Next step is a little tricky you will take each side and open up the little pocket they each make. Once open push down on the middle crease making two kites on each side.

#5: Now Take each side triangle and fold the top half down to look like this.

#6: One last step. On each side take the bottom of each kite and fold it onto each other. Now you will have something that looks like this.

Now your ready to glue. I know some people feel that cheaper glue guns tend to not work as good as more expensive. I have used my same one for years and not had a problem and it was only $10.00.
First place to put glue is on the inside fold then you can glue the two sides together. You don't need a lot of glue, otherwise is runs out the creases. You can now complete each pedal by doing this step over and over five times.

Now we are ready to assemble the flower. Once you have glued all five pedals, each one then gets glued to the other. I start on one side and just work my way around. Put a little glue on each side and glue another pedal to it.
Voila you are done!

This is where you have to use some thinking. You can go anywhere from here with these flowers. Take a look at my other posts to see what I have done with this simple flower. I think you will enjoy decorating your home or just simply crafting!

Scrabble Letters

Sitting down and playing a good old game of scrabble was not always at the top of my list of things to do. I recently found my old game on the shelf and was ready to use it in a different way. This is a very simple project that will not take long. Here is what you will need: scrabble letters, scrapbook paper, button, canvas and hot glue gun. My canvas is 12 by 12 inches. This is a good size because most scrapbook paper is bigger in size so all you will have to do is just trim to fit the canvas. Then its just like playing scrabble use the letters to make whatever design you would like. In my first picture I used a last name, Milfury and then the family members. In the pictures below you will see I used the word Family and then words around it to explain what family means to me. I have also given this to a grandmother as a gift with all of her grand kids surrounding the grandmother word. You will have to really think about the layout before you start gluing. Once you find the right

string art

Loved this project. Took some time to get set up, but it was worth it. This is a project you can do alone or with a group of friends. String art is something I have wanted to try for a while. Now that we are remodeling our home I have extra wood around. I went out and grabbed a piece I thought would work for my project. Once you are ready, start sanding your piece of wood. This will help smooth the surface and help the paint hold better. Next step was to decide on a paint. I chose Dutch Boy satin white.  I had this the basement and worked great.  I also wanted a rustic look, so I took an old sock and dipped it in the paint.  Then I just started rubbing the paint in little sections over the piece of wood, this helped give it a weathered look. Next it was to start measuring my letters. I took an 8x11 piece of paper and cut out letters for the word HOME. I used block letters for this project giving it more roo

Decorative Letters

ABCDEFG, what can you do with just a letter? Most of my ideas come from the internet, catalogs, or from others. When I started this project I wanted something I could have up at all times of the year. My goal was to eventually have different letters decorated for different themes. Think of what theme you are looking for; a particular season, a holiday, or just a traditional look that can stay up all year. The picture below shows how I decorated my mantle above the fire place. I already had a old window I pulled out of my shed. In the top three open spots I usually put undated pictures of my three girls. Just an FYI when you buy your first letter you will realize there are several different types of letters: wood ones, card board, light up, ones that stand, ones that are flat, and on and on. I strongly encourage you to think of your project ahead of time. I have three young kids and at this time in my life FAMILY is a good theme. First thought was how will I decorate each letter so
