Paper beads

If you take a look around your house I'm sure you will find an old newspaper, book,
or scrapbook paper. You would be amazed to hear that this paper will assist you in making a beautiful necklace, earning, or bracelet to wear daily. I started this project after looking on Pinterest and seeing a single bead and wondering how it was made. Using magazines or scrapbook paper gives a unique look to your bead. To get started I have a list of needed items. Some of these are only based on what I have found work the best so feel free to search the web or store for similar items.

Here is a list of items you will need:
1. Some kind of paper, again s Magazine or scrapbook paper
2. glue: honestly I used Elmer glue stick
3.Tool for rolling the paper
4. clear nail polish

Let's get started. First you will need to decide what type of bead you would like to make. Then you will cut the paper according to what ever type you would like. Here are a few examples of ways to cut the paper

Once you cut you paper you will also need to know how many you will need, then I would cut all the pieces at once. Once you have them cut you can start rolling the paper.  Take your rolling tool and start at the bigger end of the paper and start rolling. As you roll apply the glue to help make the paper stick together. Once you are at the end of the paper make sure the end sticks and doesn't unroll. Now you can apply a thin layer of clear nail polish all over the bead. This helps make the bead shiny and also helps keep it from unraveling. The pictures below are a few different types of beads you can make.

Gather all of your beads together and start on your project. I like to go to thrift stores and pick up old jewelry and use them for part to make my jewelry. Otherwise you can always go and get a necklace kit. Here is a necklace I made with using pieces from other necklaces.

Scrabble Letters

Sitting down and playing a good old game of scrabble was not always at the top of my list of things to do. I recently found my old game on the shelf and was ready to use it in a different way. This is a very simple project that will not take long. Here is what you will need: scrabble letters, scrapbook paper, button, canvas and hot glue gun. My canvas is 12 by 12 inches. This is a good size because most scrapbook paper is bigger in size so all you will have to do is just trim to fit the canvas. Then its just like playing scrabble use the letters to make whatever design you would like. In my first picture I used a last name, Milfury and then the family members. In the pictures below you will see I used the word Family and then words around it to explain what family means to me. I have also given this to a grandmother as a gift with all of her grand kids surrounding the grandmother word. You will have to really think about the layout before you start gluing. Once you find the right

string art

Loved this project. Took some time to get set up, but it was worth it. This is a project you can do alone or with a group of friends. String art is something I have wanted to try for a while. Now that we are remodeling our home I have extra wood around. I went out and grabbed a piece I thought would work for my project. Once you are ready, start sanding your piece of wood. This will help smooth the surface and help the paint hold better. Next step was to decide on a paint. I chose Dutch Boy satin white.  I had this the basement and worked great.  I also wanted a rustic look, so I took an old sock and dipped it in the paint.  Then I just started rubbing the paint in little sections over the piece of wood, this helped give it a weathered look. Next it was to start measuring my letters. I took an 8x11 piece of paper and cut out letters for the word HOME. I used block letters for this project giving it more roo

Decorative Letters

ABCDEFG, what can you do with just a letter? Most of my ideas come from the internet, catalogs, or from others. When I started this project I wanted something I could have up at all times of the year. My goal was to eventually have different letters decorated for different themes. Think of what theme you are looking for; a particular season, a holiday, or just a traditional look that can stay up all year. The picture below shows how I decorated my mantle above the fire place. I already had a old window I pulled out of my shed. In the top three open spots I usually put undated pictures of my three girls. Just an FYI when you buy your first letter you will realize there are several different types of letters: wood ones, card board, light up, ones that stand, ones that are flat, and on and on. I strongly encourage you to think of your project ahead of time. I have three young kids and at this time in my life FAMILY is a good theme. First thought was how will I decorate each letter so
