Toilet Paper Rolls

Next time you get to the last square on your toilet paper don’t just throw it away. What if I told you that silly piece of cardboard can actually be very decorative. Maybe you still don't believe me. This post is all about what you can do with a toilet paper roll.

For this project I bought a canvas 12x12, spray paint, gathered as many rolls as I could, and started my project.
I took a regular toilet paper roll and cut them into single petals. You can make them as thick as you would like. If you push down on the cut petal, it will fold together this will make a slim looking petal. If you push on each end of petal it will look more thick.

Once you cut all the pieces start assembling the flower. I took six pieces to make the flower. Each one was put together using a glue gun. I also made a few single petals to use as part of the picture.  Both pictures give an idea how you can rearrange the flowers on your canvas. I used black and silver spray paint, but any color will work.

string art

Loved this project. Took some time to get set up, but it was worth it. This is a project you can do alone or with a group of friends. String art is something I have wanted to try for a while. Now that we are remodeling our home I have extra wood around. I went out and grabbed a piece I thought would work for my project. Once you are ready, start sanding your piece of wood. This will help smooth the surface and help the paint hold better. Next step was to decide on a paint. I chose Dutch Boy satin white.  I had this the basement and worked great.  I also wanted a rustic look, so I took an old sock and dipped it in the paint.  Then I just started rubbing the paint in little sections over the piece of wood, this helped give it a ...

All About Paper

I always thought scrapbook paper is used solely for scrap booking. Wrong, I quickly realized scrapbook paper can be used in several different projects. In this post I wanted to show you a fun hobby I started about five years ago, making paper flowers. I Love to work on these. Yes they are time consuming, but when you are finished they look great. Here are a few flowers arrangements I have completed.  In the steps below I describe a step by step process how to make one of these.  The flower shown below is a common flower I use in most of my bouquets or flower arrangements. Lets get started. Depending on what you are making the flower for, will depend on how big you want the flowers. I typically make a 4 by 4 square. One flower takes 5 squares. #1:Once you get the squares cut you can start folding.  First fold is completed by folding one end to another making a triangle.                     #2: Now tak...

Decorative Letters

ABCDEFG, what can you do with just a letter? Most of my ideas come from the internet, catalogs, or from others. When I started this project I wanted something I could have up at all times of the year. My goal was to eventually have different letters decorated for different themes. Think of what theme you are looking for; a particular season, a holiday, or just a traditional look that can stay up all year. The picture below shows how I decorated my mantle above the fire place. I already had a old window I pulled out of my shed. In the top three open spots I usually put undated pictures of my three girls. Just an FYI when you buy your first letter you will realize there are several different types of letters: wood ones, card board, light up, ones that stand, ones that are flat, and on and on. I strongly encourage you to think of your project ahead of time. I have three young kids and at this time in my life FAMILY is a good theme. First thought was how will I decorate each letter so...
